The Russian government has sold off the vast majority of its holdings of US Treasury securities for reasons that remain mysterious, in a dramatic move that experts are calling unprecedented.
A US Treasury report released on July 18 shows that Russian holdings of Treasury securities declined by 84 per cent between March and May, down to just $14.9 billion from March holdings of $96.1 billion.
The report was issued quietly amid the controversy surrounding President Donald Trump‘s July 16 meeting with Russian President Valdimir Putin in Helsinki, dropping Russia from the list of major Treasuries holders without comment.

Black Lives Matter to Counter Protest ‘White Civil Rights Rally’ in DC
The Washington D.C. chapter of Black Lives Matter is planning to counter protest the stupidly-named “White Civil Rights Rally” scheduled to be held near the White House at Lafayette Park on Aug. 12, which is also the anniversary of the deadly white supremacist rally that was held in Charlottesville, Va.
According to Fox5DC, Shut It Down DC, will also be helping to organize the protest.
“We are calling all anti-fascists and people of good conscience to participate in international days of action August 10 through August 12 and a mass mobilization in Washington, D.C.,” a note on Shut It Down DC’s website reads. “This is for Heather Heyer, Corey Long, Deandre Harris, ICE abolition, open borders, dismantling the prison industrial complex and ending the settler colonial system. We will confront fascism, antisemitism, islamophobia, white supremacy and state violence on August 10-12.”

Deadly wildfires burn in California
Jonathan Cox, a battalion chief and public information officer with Cal Fire, said the fires in California right now are bigger and faster-burning than many the state has seen before.
“What we’re seeing in California right now is more destructive, larger fires burning at rates that we have historically never seen. And our message is simply, if you feel like you could be in danger to leave the area when these fires are burning.”
He added that weather conditions shave “exploded” the fire “at a rate of spread that we have not seen before.”
The Carr Fire, he said, is 20% contained — up from just 5% on Sunday.
