Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s incredible ability to bounce back

She’s back at work despite three broken ribs and a range of other health setbacks.

Panic spread among liberals last week when word got out that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had been hospitalized after falling in her office and breaking three ribs.

Ginsburg, who was appointed in 1993 by then-President Bill Clinton, is one of four liberals in the now 5-4 majority conservative Supreme Court. She’s also the oldest serving justice. If she has to step down or dies suddenly, President Trump would be able to make a third appointment for an even stronger conservative majority. So her health is carefully scrutinized by people on both sides of the aisle.

But a few broken ribs didn’t stop the unflappable Notorious RBG, as she’s been known since 2015, when Irin Carmon’s biography with that title was published. Black Security Guard Responding to Shooting Is Killed by Police

Witnesses told the police that a fight had broken out and someone had started shooting. After the authorities responded, a police officer shot the guard, Jemel Roberson, 26, who had a gun, Ms. Ansari said. Mr. Roberson died at the hospital.

Witnesses said that people in the crowd had yelled to arriving police officers that Mr. Roberson, who was wearing gear that read “Security,” was a guard. Ms. Ansari confirmed that Mr. Roberson worked for the bar.

“Everybody was screaming out, ‘Security!’,” one witness, Adam Harris, told WGN-TV. “He was a security guard. And they still did their job, and saw a black man with a gun, and basically killed him.”

Hate Crimes Jumped 17% During Donald Trump’s First Year In Office, According To The FBI

“This is a historic increase, and it has to be recognized as such. It can’t be explained away by increased reporting.”

In President Donald Trump’s first year in office, the number of reported hate crimes jumped 17% — the highest climb in more than a decade — according to 2017 numbers released Tuesday by the FBI.

Extremism watchdogs say the latest FBI hate crime report confirms their worries about the rise of bias-motivated attacks across the board, with the numbers suggesting an outbreak of hatred targeting several groups rather than the isolated increases of previous years. Black people, Jews, Muslims, LGBT people, and other minorities all saw sharp increases or other concerning patterns.
