Kamala Harris just showed why Biden chose her as his running mate

When Kamala Harris appeared with Joe Biden on Wednesday as his running mate for the first time, she showed why he had chosen her.

Gliding past President Donald Trump’s sexist depictions of her as “mean” and “nasty,” the senator from California shredded Trump’s White House record with the agility that comes from her years as a courtroom prosecutor. Yet she delivered those critiques with bright notes of hope and optimism — accentuated by the smiles that are expected from female politicians.

“The President’s mismanagement of the pandemic has plunged us into the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and we’re experiencing a moral reckoning with racism and systemic injustice that has brought a new coalition of conscience to the streets of our country demanding change,” Harris said at the afternoon event in Wilmington, Delaware.

Israel and the UAE just struck a historic peace deal. It’s a big win for Trump.

A lot of details remain to be worked out, but this is still a really big agreement.

But at the heart of the agreement is a trade: As the statement lays out, Israel will “suspend declaring sovereignty over” parts of the West Bank that it had previously expressed intentions to annex. In exchange, the UAE will treat Israel as it would any other country it has friendly relations with — making it only the third Arab country to have such open relations with Jerusalem.

Trump and his aides struggle for a message as political blows keep coming

The president — who is down in the polls and has failed to deliver on a big stimulus deal — is resorting to his incendiary attacks.

While the president has never been known for discipline when it comes to his communications strategy, he unleashed on Thursday especially sharp and sexist criticisms of several female political rivals — including newly minted vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is proving unrelenting in stimulus negotiations.

The rhetoric appeared at odds with his own attempts to court the very suburban female voters who are turning away from him in large numbers.

Trump also flashed his tendency to say the quiet parts out loud, explicitly stating that he is trying to block funding for the Postal Service in order to stop universal mail-in voting during November’s election.
