Confluence: Tell us a little about your family.
Roselyne: We are a growing family of 5. My husband was born in Haiti and migrate here in his late teens. I grew up in a single family home. So we are both no strangers to sacrifice and hard work. Our upbring is actually one of the driving forces behind us wanting to own a home. We never had that as children so we want to provide the stability for our children.
Confluence: Why is owning your own home so important to you?

Confluence: When did you first realize the contractor was not going to complete the job and had taken your money?
Roselyne: We noticed about a month after closing (April 28, 2017) that something was off because he started avoiding our calls and didn’t provide any updates. But a few days before Irma hit swfl or suspicions were confirmed. I stopped by his office and it was completely emptym decals on the glass door and all.
Confluence: How do you feel about his claim that your family threatened him?
Roselyne: I was completely taken aback that he would say we threatened him. But such is life. I hate to feel like the victim is always made out to be the bad guy. If we threaten him it would be justified for him stealing from us. But we wanted so bad for him to right his wrong so keep believing his excuses and remaining hopeful.
Confluence: What advice do you have for other families who might find themselves in a similar position?
Roselyne: I would say don’t lose hope. It’s not easy to imagine better days but we have each other and our health. Sometimes thats all it takes. We have not and will never give up on achieving the American Dream. Every setback positions you for an even better comeback.
